do know how to get rid of the tabs in the google homepage

Hi there,

You should have a link for "Classic Home" at the top right of your screen. See the attached screenshot.

Click on the tab's name, a button "delete" will appear next to it. Remove all tabs except the Home tab. That should result in a customized google frontpage without tabs.
