OK, I have a suggestion, maybe a complaint... depends how you look at it. ;)

Yesterday there were two very good discussions going on, Alright Wardriving (http://www.antionline.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=273097) and Cell phone phreaking (http://www.antionline.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=273113). Two users (who shall rename nameless... as I will sandblast their their tombstones) added some worthless crap to the discussion and were negged to high hell for it... and the should have!

My problem is this, these users get negged by a couple people and it shows that that post is worthless, fine. It is when everyone starts negging them that we get a problem. Those threads became "suicidal" and were closed just because of those two idiots. Now, two good discussions are lost and ignored because of the thread rating.

My suggestion is can the amount a person is negged be controled? Can a post just be removed or hidden if it reaches a certain negging point? Or is it that us users have to control ourselves not to neg somone once they are flashing with negitivity?

Thank you for your time, I will now go get something to calm me down... maybe a whiskey?

Amen.

What you have asked is already implemented. I have a cap on my account. I can't get anymore powerful than I am right now.. The thread closing is my fault, I negged him and it went away. I think I can PM Neg and have him open it again and get rid of the idiots. I'm fairly sure he can do that so I'll send him a PM and let him know. and sorry, that was my fault. But to answer your question there is a Max and I'm there heh.

Hi

Actually, there is another control mechanism: thread AP assignment.
If those Megablasters ( :) ) first assign 50% pos on the thread, and
then 100% neg on the offending post, the overall AP assignment won't
be changed (assuming one post), but the offender will be hurt.

Cheers

Deeboe, you can also PM a mod like myself and we can remove the offending posts and thus re-open the thread. Which I've done for both of those threads.

Thanks Mittens. Didn't know you were on. I sent a message to Neg but as long as it was taken care of. This usually doesn't happen because I green most threads I neg people in but. I've been awake for 22 hours. I'm shocked this Perl script even works.

Silly question:-

Since we can assign AP's to the thread _or_ the person why can't the AP system be altered so that a AP's against an individual has no effect on the status of the thread and AP's assigned to the thread itself has no effect on any user in it. In this way a (L)user can be negged to death when they post crap in a good thread but the thread remains open and their inane comments are hidden. If the thread itself is utter garbage then people can neg the thread to death and no-one in it is affected.

This would serve well because it would give a better indication of the tread content on the front page since, right now, a perfectly good thread appears as "extremely negative" if a numbnuts has appeared in it.

I know... I'm a genius.... ;)

Hey Hey,

Not that it matters what I think... but my answer to that would be balance...

Let's say there's a shit thread... full of shit replies... and there's no mod around... If you wanted.. right now you could neg the thread and all the replies.. for some members (actually prolly quite a few of the seniors)... that would prolly be enough to close it.... If they weren't affected by eachother... you would't close the thread and it'd continue to get worse waiting for a mod..

Quite honestly... it's a matter of using your APs responsibly.... It's kind of like playing with a loaded gun... If you see a thread is slightly negative.... and you don't want to see it close.. Then you greenie someone else (or the thread itself)... but if you want to see it close.. that's your right and opinion.. and in theory you've earned the APs to do it.. As MsM said... you can always PM a mod and there are ways to reopen the thread... I think it's very seldom that a thread ends up closed that was a worthwhile thread....

Just my 2 cents.

Peace,
HT

But it's a two step process to neg a person if the thread is good because you then have to undo the damage you did to the thread.

Since we have the ability to neg either it is perfectly logical to separate the functionality, (and I'm sure it's not a whole lot of programming..... ;))

Wow, this all good information.

I have a suggestion, even if it IS my own thread to begin with. :D

I assume the thread status is based on total antipoints assigned in the thread. What if the AntiPoint Status of the thread was based on a percentage instead? I will just throw a number out like 10%. So if 10% of the posts are positive, that will cause the thread to go positive.

Disclaimer: If this is already how it is done, please excuse me and don't neg me. j/k

I hope you guys aren't refering to me as one of the idiots... I just thought it was humorous that someone who I've never seen contribute to the site (been here a year and only has 80 posts, obviously doesn't contribute much) thought it was his duty to police the forums...

I didn't say anything to him that wasn't family friendly :).

Well I think for the most part we are pretty good about keeping good threads alive even if some dirt balls are posting. The two yesterday, just slipped away. Couple of us negged at the same time and it happens. We don't intentionally close good threads, in fact you'll see the posts that are contributing are most likely glowing brightly from positive aps.

And if you have any questions, we got some great mods that are very fair to all (notice the suck-up :)) so as mentioned earlier, just pm one of them and they can work their magic.

cheers

You're no Darkwing..... But I like Ducks.... ;)

FYI: Darkwing is a female mallard that appears to have been hit by a car on her left side. Somehow she got to our lake but now she cannot leave because every time she tries to fly she does a forward somersault... It's winter here in MI now, (though, luckily for her, it's been very mild so far but the lake has frozen down to small areas on the inflow and outflow earlier in the season), so she has to walk the whole lake, (300 yards), from one piece of open water to the other. I'd go and catch her but the ice has been too thin.... It's sad because we have ducks fly in daily and she is happy but often they all leave in the evening and you can hear her trying to call in some other ducks to keep her company. She's been really lucky with the weather and if it gets cold enough for me to go and catch her sweetie with throw a fit... We have a cat.

I wish you luck with that Tiger, I speak from experience, trying to catch a duck (even one that can't fly) is no easy task. Break out your fish net, the one with the VERY LONG handle ;)

Yeah.... I've been considering my options.... A landing net came to mind... I sure as heck don't want to be chasing her on ice.... Though, I forgot to mention it.... Her left leg is screwed too so she is a tad slower than the average mallard... I might be able to get her bare-handed... Maybe I should video it for "Funniest Animal Videos"....
