Which after reading this thread makes me wonder just what, exactly, is going on with the 'big' boysIBM really is coming out of the open source camp with all guns
blazing. After yesterday's Java announcement it's now teaming up with
Red Hat in a bid to take out Solaris and replace it with Linux.
Big Blue is delicately quiet about whether this also means taking out
its own AIX Unix version.
But the fight could be tougher than it thinks. Solaris is already well
on its way towards going open source too.
And while IBM is flavour of the month in the free software community
that may not last. There's a lot of dedicated Solaris users out there
who won't be keen to make the switch to the Big Blue side.
