AntiOnline is having a Logo Contest!! The contest starts Wednesday, April 16th and ends on May 16th! Please read our Contest Rules page before you begin! You can find it here: http://www.antionline.com/aoprizerules.html

Essentially the logo must be created with a vector-based application, i.e. Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand, and fonts must be converted to outlines.

You can submit your entries in this thread, and the community can view and comment on them. On Monday, May 19th Jupitermedia will make our final decision and award the prize, a $50 gift certificate from Amazon.com.

Thanks, and good luck!

wow, a $50 gift cetificate?
so much reward, so little time. </sarcasm>

seriously, why not get one of your employees to do it? this seems to be nothing more than a gimmick.

Hey this is a joke but since i was an old member and probably will be banned for this. I would just like to say the logo is a joke and so is the contest. hehe. Another thing I'm really dissapointed in the new management. They don't know shiznit about shiznit. JP shouldn't have sold AO to these guys in my opinon. I would just like to say it cause I think alot of people are thinking it. So without furthur a due GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!

I think you all know what the right thing to do is

Nadir, this contest was requested by the comunity..

As you might know AntiOnline is (or atleast used to be) all about the comunity..
So letting us design a logo is a part of that Community feeling..

so let me add my fugly logo.. not to win.. just to add something to this community..

this was done in 0.35 minutes with The Gimp :D
wich automaticly disqualifies me from the contest..
I forgot they had to be vector based :(
well screw it..

yea, i will submit a new logo as soon as i make one. but i just wanted to ask, didnt AO change its logo not so long ago. and is this new logo going to be put up or is it just a small comp??

Okay, here is my design. please note that i am a mathematical person and do not have that artistic appeal, so it wont look as good as anyone elses :P, but i hope you have fun.

My one is in the spirit of my favrite web browser, Opera. its not exactly charming but if you want to change it you can. :D

Nadir,

I was the one that suggested to them a reward (originally a t-shirt but they might not have any) and encouraged the contest (before the recent contest thread was started). Why so hard on them when they are trying to be part of the community? Since everyone dislikes the present logo, it made sense to ask everyone for their ideas. And a month isn't the total time to work on it. It's the time allowed. You could do it in 10 minutes if need be but there has to be enough time to allow as many members to see the contest, think up ideas, etc. Maybe a new person comes in with a great idea but if the contest was only open for a day or so, they might miss out.

At first, sorry for this off-topic reply.

To all the morons who think they've got to take their shot at JM and the AO Admins.

-If you only post to tell things like Rekcpy and Nadir ... don't bother....
-If you do rant, at least have the balls and actually make a logo ( at least Nadir had the balls)
-If the admins wouldn't care about AO, they wouldn't organize this contest at the first place.
-Concerning the reward, you had your chance to comment that before in the pre-contest thread, like MsMittens answered.

Oh Btw,

GOD BLESS AMERICA

What the hell has this do with it the contest ????

I've ranted, and as I said myself in this post, I will try to make a logo too....

okay firstly
i've been a member of AO for ...quiet a long time. I've keept it quiet for also a very long time, occasionally browsing around and seeing the script kiddies pour in. But in my opinion, JM doing a good job of admistering the site. As negative said in one of his other posts, the changes they have made are just cosmetic, but that have not changed the actual content or community side of things. which ofcourse is a good thing.
secondly, the logo contest, in my opinion, is a good idea. for one thing, it got me off my ass and back into the community. well kind of. At least JM is attempting to involve the community in the way the site looks. thumbs up for JM there.
thridly...i whipped up something before, but if any other logos come along that are incredibly good, then i'll make a new one. Mine was done in illustrator (yes i have the .ai files), but for the sake of the internet, i've converted to a .gif for everyone to view.
Last...very important and i think JM should take this into account. For future competitions, please supply more details. Eg. the size or max size of the file (or size of the logo), the colors that are preferred, the text that MUST be in it (e.g. do we have to include 'hackers know your weaknesses etc etc in the logo?), and any other details that would help us 'designers' to complete our competition entry. I was quiet stumped for which colors i should use, since no color theme was specified. If we made a bright pink and green logo, would the layout of the forums and antionline change with the logo? or do we have to conform with the current colors of the forums? they are just some questions to consider.
okay enough talk for now, here's my entry. Not sure if JM wanted a crazy/suburban/new generation logo or just a plain/simple/professional logo. oh well... :)

Thanks for the entries and comments thus far folks. As far as colors, we're open to suggestions for the color scheme of the site, which is why we didn't specify which colors to use. Width and height should be approximately those of the current logo. We didn't want to get too specific, as we'd rather give folks an open window with respect to design, etc.

The winning logo will indeed replace the current logo throughout the site. We'd appreciate some input on the sort of logo folks think would reflect the concepts and ideals represented here on AO. Some of those I've seen so far have been quite impressive...I tend to think we'll get a varied group of designs, but that's what this contest is about--letting everyone who wishes have a go at it. In the end we'll have a logo that we can all be proud of.

Okay, here is another entry of mine. um, im just using simple M$ paint to make mine with no cutting or pasting...is that vector based. im pretty sure it is. but if not they can all be changed.....practically freehand so....

o yea, and i just make the AntiOnline part, the rest can be filled in later if its really needed. and i didnt use colour cause i like the current AO colour scheme.... maybe i change would be good.

and yes, Australians spell Color (American) Colour (Australian) hehe, just i case you didnt know

morfius
April 17th, 2003, 12:39 PM
okay...im not sure if Trust_Not_123 was being sarcastic, but vector based means an image that is made up of mathematical caluclations, not made up of specific colors at specific coordinates. i.e. a jpeg is NOT a vector based image, since the jpeg is made up of pixel by pixel colors. a 'freehand' or 'illustrator' image IS vector because the image is not made up pixel by pixel, it is made up by...for example: at cooridinate 3,4 draw a circle with radius 6 pixels and fill it with orange.
Does that clear things up or not? oh well i tried...
i might make another logo later on when the dead line approaches. ;)

We'd appreciate some input on the sort of logo folks think would reflect the concepts and ideals represented here on AO.

good idea!...but isn't that just security, community and advice? (that makes a good slogon! :))
and...i was wondering if it would have been wiser to make two seperate threads, one for entries ONLY and one for discussion on the way the logo should look. i also had another idea where after the dead line, the JM admins would collect ...say their 5 most favourite logos, then post a thread with those 5 logos. Then the AO community could vote for which of the 5 logos they wanted. That way...everyone's happy...sorta
:D

morfius

the archives of files are *meant* to be for research purposes, so that 'hackers' and security professionals are on the same level and have the same access to each others 'tricks of trade'.

ok, just a tiny piece of adive, which im positive is in the site FAQ. if you post something you think people wont like to see, then you hide it, because then if they didnt like what they read its your own fault. but, voicing your opinion is a downfall of the AP system. and just for the post above definately should have been hidden, because of the bad language. and it total, here is my advice from me to you nadir, dont whinge and bitch about such trivial crap. you posted bad. who cares, you got a few negs not get over it. post something useful and worthwhile and those negs wont mean a thing. and remeber, you cant neg me for it otherwise thats just a double standard for you.

Nadir,

He wasn't the only one. Did you not read my PM? The language and tone you are using will make it worse. Granted, people do use APs to express opinions and that may not be the best way of using it but neither is posting about APs in this thread nor the tone. The tone you present will, guarantee, get you more negs (unless that's what you want).

I'd suggest you change your posts and move the discuss to a separate thread.

So what EXACTLY do you mean by logo? has everyone so far produced the expected? or do you mean a catchy little graphic possibly devoid of direct reference to this site? Also, was the little 'slogan' type thing up for grabs as well, or just the look of the word 'antionline'?

morfius, sorry I haven't been around lately...I've been busy working on another project and haven't had much of a chance to get in here. Anyway, to answer some questions I've seen in this thread:

* you can enter as many times as you wish
* yes, it does have to be created as a vector-based graphic (so it can be easily and cleanly enlarged or shrunken down)
* although we had intended to include the catchphrase, it's not required, and is open to suggestions

I've seen some great logos so far...my personal preference is logos that are clean looking, easy to read, crisp, without background images.

Hiya,

First I would like to say, that my submissions are ugly and use the same layer effects over and over, with just some different fonts and a different gradient/glow color. I never expected to win, and didn't even save the logo's in something else then jpeg format. It is nothing compared to some serious submissions that were made.

I recommend against using the logo, and definatly not using it's pink color as a base for this site's future color scheme. I really cannot understand how one of my submissions was chosen. If it was up to me, I would post a poll of all submissions, and let AO's members decide, because I bet this decision will dissapoint a lot of members.

You can use it if you want, i just think that it will be a very very bad choice. I don't know who's in charge of PR at JUPM, but he should be fired for even thinking about aproving a pink color scheme.

Thanks.

If you want to use the logo, sure, go ahead. I won't stop you.

sorry i just find this funny.... can't wait for the pink theme

Congrats on ure win SD!

/edit
If it was up to me, I would post a poll of all submissions, and let AO's members decide
i agree! What's a community if the community doesn't make the decissions?

BTW...personally i think GG's first entry should win...if not hers, then my own second entry! ;)

I found the font I used. It's called "Octicity" and is freeware.

Guys & AO administrators,

I just want to give my opinion here and please understand this is just an opinion. I think is not fair that Sick Dwarf logo's has been chosen. He said he was just scewing around and there were people that really use time and thought about a a good design like Greek Goddess that really has an excellent design. But maybe i'm wrong here and this wasn't unfair, because if you think his design is better than others well, there's nothing we can do unless you let the community vote about it, but what i think is really unfair (and Sick Dwarf please correct me if i'm wrong) is that that logo isn't totally in a vector program, the shadows and perfection of the borders (like anti-aliasing) show that logo was made in a program similar to PhotoShop. If this is true it is unfair because any of us, me included, would have used PhotoShop to create really good efects that give a professional touch to any design you make. When you present a logo like a vector will never reach the queality of a logo made in PhotoShop for example. I could bet it took a lot of time to Greek Goddess to make her design and, as Sick Dwarf said, he just took some different fonts and "apply" (not create) some efects so... i think is totally unfair and Greek Goddess is a real champion giving the congratulations to Sick Dwarf.
Hey Sick Dwarf, please don't think is against you, not even close, i like the logo very much really, and is not against AO administrators is just against the decission made that i think is unfair.

Please, Sick Dwarf, tell us if you have made the logo in a not-vector-based program or if you have used some not-vector-based efects. Pleaseeee!!!, again, is not against you, i'm just defending the rules of the contest.

Really, really sorry if i'm wrong but i prefer asking instead of keeping that doubt forever.

Thanks all and sorry for my boldness, bye,

DKRR

-DaRK-RaiDeR-:
1. I opened photoshop.
2. Typed some text.
3. Chose a font
4. Created a layer style with glow/gradient overlay, etc etc
5. Changed fonts/text size & color as I saved the different versions in jpeg format
I never created it in a vector based program, and I wasnt planning on doing so. No offence taken :)

Guys,

Well, i think there's nothing to discuss here. The rules were clearly written i think and they say the logo has to be done in a vector based program. Sick Dwarf has demonstrated he's an excellent member and gentleman telling us the exact way he followed to make the logo knowing his logo can lost the winner award. I don't know what the decission will be know, but before an administrator answer back here i think, although the logo is invalid, Sick Dwarf would still keep his $50 dollars ticket award because it wasn't his mistake or fault and he was already the winner although AO owners decide to choose another logo then.

Please, if there's an administrator that could tell us about this... intmon?

Thanks,

DKRR

PS: Sick Dwarf, i really appreciate what you did and will take you as one of the more respected members here and know many other members would do the same. You're a real champion too!!! :)

DKRR: i never gave any information to let them give me the $50, so it's still available for the true winner, if JUPM agrees to follow their own price rules.... :)

On SD's behalf, I'd like to submit the finished product recreated to the best of my ability in Illustrator in SVG format: (Note: I wasn't sure of the second font used.)

http://dementia.driftkids.com/antionline.svg
(You must have an SVG viewer to see it. If you don't have the browser plugins, right-click save as to your desktop and view it from there. :))

And for those of you without one, here is a rasterized version with a glow effect (not in the SVG version).

Mania,
I'm not sure but I wonder if your signature is having an effect on the thread. Could you possibly simplify it?

strange....
you can't see your post in IE mittens....
one too many closing table tags in the sig? ..or maybe its somethin else. Maybe PM this person or email or something beacuse if they're using IE, i dont think they are seeing all the threads they are 'stuffing' up.
I thought moderators can modify user's sig's?
:D

No. Moderators cannot modify sigs. However, Admins can. He's been PM'd about it.
